John's passion for hunting began as a young child, while accompanying his dad and grandfather as they pursued pheasants in north central Iowa. John harvested his first turkey at age 14 and has been a self proclaimed turkey hunting addict ever since. He says that if you don't believe him, you can just ask his wife. Like many people he began deer hunting as a teenager just trying to harvest "any" deer. Over the past several years however, he has become a firm believer in QDM and as such, does his part to be a good steward of the land. This entails the harvest of does and only taking mature bucks out of the herd.

Hunting has become a lifelong ambition for John. He especially enjoys chasing mature whitetail deer and calling up spring turkeys. John has been a Drury Outdoors Team member since 1994 and gets the most gratification from sitting behind the camera and laying down great footage. John credits the successful hunts that he has filmed to determination, hard work, attention to detail, and the techniques he has learned from good friends Mark and Terry Drury.

John feels fortunate to have the opportunity to capture hunts on camera each year across North America. During the past few years John has been blessed with a number of accomplishments, such as becoming a state and open turkey calling champion, harvesting/filming pope and young class whitetail deer, and harvesting/video taping multiple grand slams during spring turkey season. John says his most memorable hunting experiences thus far have been filming his wife Suzy harvest her 181” 13 pointer for Dream Season 11 and harvesting a 190" Mule Deer with a bow in Alberta, Canada for the Big Game volume 1.  John feels fortunate to be affiliated with such a great company and treasures the friendships that he has forged with other team members throughout the years.

When John is not hunting and filming for Drury Outdoors, he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, playing softball, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, doing hunting seminars, competing at turkey calling contests, and trying to educate/introduce others to hunting and the outdoors experience.
