January 29: Brian Wiese

Cody and I made the 12 1/2 hour drive to NW Colorado to hunt with Jimmie Walz of Rolling Bones Outfitters on a late season management mule deer hunt. We spotted this buck in a bachelor group and as they were beginning to bed down a group of does came spooked out of another draw, picked up the bucks; and ran about 1 1/2 miles before bedding down. It took awhile, but we were able to sneak up to about 275 yds from the bedded deer and the waiting game began. He was one of the last deer of the group to stand up and he finally presented us with a broadside shot. It was my first time hunting with this setup, but with one shot, the Winchester Deer Season XP .308 bullet found it's mark. Having been the first time we had hunted in NW Colorado, we can say that it won't be our last.
