Summertime songdogs!!

Usually the night before opening day of deer season I would guess most guys are going over their equipment, shooting a few more arrows or debating what stand to try the next morning...not us. Instead, we were bound and determined to try our luck with the coyotes behind my house one more time. We had a previous encounter back in July but were unable to capture enough of it on film for me to justify pulling the trigger. A month later in August, the same coyote decided to show his face again coming into our call but ended up hanging up at over 200 yards.

We knew with deer season starting this might be our last chance at these dogs that I have listened to almost every night for the last 3 months. Leaving the rabbit decoy at home and instead packing the Flambeau lone howler, we hoped to appeal to one's curiosity in order to get a shot. Well the third time was a charm, because just as with the previous two hunts in a matter of minutes JJ whispered "coyote coming in". He tried to circle the decoy, but the north east wind that we had been waiting on prevented this from happening and the shot rang true dumping the coyote in his tracks. Hoping that this is the just the beginning of a good hunting season! Good luck to all! Kyle
