Every year JJ and myself try to hash out some goals for the upcoming season..and every year one of those goals is to get a good deer killed in October. Well, almost every year this is a goal that seemed to be unattainable for some reason or another. However, this season was the exception. Most of the season had been extremely warm except for a short period when we were gone to Wyoming hunting for mule deer and antelope. Since, the temps were high and deer activity as a result was extremely limited. Once late October rolled in, the temps plummeted and as a result we started to see more and more deer with every sit. On Friday, we were in a set on some standing soybeans and couldn't believe how many deer were already using them this early in the season. The decision was made to hang a new set down in a creek bottom not to far away. Kolesar had found this spot during while shed hunting back in March and fell in love with the spot. Despite it being October 27th, we (well JJ at least; somebody had to film it :) ) hung a double set midday, and new if the North wind stayed, we would be in there in the morning.

The next morning the wind was still out of the North so we piled into the new set with high hopes. We weren't in there more than 15 minutes and I smacked JJ on the leg and told him "good buck". The deer was already less than 50 yards and closing fast. Due to the hedge trees and thick cover, by the time the camera booted up, he was at 26 yards. As soon as JJ said yes,the arrow was on its way and found its mark. I knew the shot was good and was thrilled that one of our goals had just been met! Hoping that this weather holds and the next few weeks should be a great ride! Good luck to all!
