November 11: Lance Chapman

This story starts back in July when I found out I had drawn a coveted Iowa archery tag. As a non-resident I dont get too hunt Iowa very often so I was excited to know I would be there come Fall. I am very familiar with the Iowa farm I would be hunting so I made a trip up in mid October to hang a few Reconyx cameras in prime locations on the farm. November came and I was watching the weather to determine when to head north .

We finally decided to make the long trip after a cold front was moving into southeast Iowa. We got there and it was cold for a few days and then warmed back up some ,, we had several encounters with some great bucks but just couldnt close the deal . I had some success with rattling on this farm before so early one afternoon I decided to hit the antlers. Immediately after put the antlers down I hear a buck coming in to my left. It was a shooter ! I didnt have alot of time to debate as he was getting out of range fast. I settled the pin and the Evo 7 and the Rage did the rest. I had been hunting so hard that I hadn't even looked at all the trail pics from the Reconyx. When I finally did , I noticed I had a few pics of this buck in previous weeks. He was a nice mature 10 pt that I was very fortunate and excited to harvest !
