September 14: Brandon Jennings

Well all the hard work and homework paid off! This is a buck we have named Django and we have been taking pictures of him all summer and building new food plots to try and harvest him in. Unfortunately it didn't rain here for two months leading up to the season so the food plots were basically just dirt but the soybeans were planted late on this farm so they were still a lush green and the deer are piling out in to them.

I kept moving my Reconyx around all over the farm trying to lock down Django and finally found where he was bedding and feeding and hung a set vowing to stay out til opening night of our season. Wow did the move pay off in a big way! We had a weather front move in and it dropped our temps 20 plus degrees and had the deer up and moving early, but we couldn't believe our eyes when we looked to the west and saw Django headed our way at 6:00. He piddled around in the brush for a few minutes without moving more than a yard or two.

My heart was beating out of my chest, then he finally made his way to 25 yards and gave me a quartering away shot and the PSE drove the Rage Extreme home and we found him piled up after a short 50 yard tracking job. What a great way to start off the year with my biggest buck to date and I still have a coveted Iowa archery tag in my pocket so I hope to bring an Iowa giant to the Journal and all DOD fans in the coming months. Be Safe and Shoot Strait...
