2013 had been a true challenge with many failed attempts at harvesting a mature whitetail in Missouri and many failed attempts to even see a whitetail in Illinois. Having put in 58 days in the stand before harvesting his first buck in Missouri Terry was hopeful to capitalize during the Illinois gun season. After numerous all day sits producing only a few does Illinois gun season was drawing to a close but in the last 2 days Terry got to enjoy being there to celebrate both Jim Thome and Matt Drury harvest bucks.

The day after Illinois gun season closed Terry headed back to Missouri in hopes of filling his second bow tag. That evening Terry chose to sit in a box blind laying between a Biologic Deer Radish field and standing corn looking for a buck named “Socks” which Terry had many encounters with in this area. With many days of highs in the 20ʻs the field filled up with does and young bucks looking to put on the “feed bag”. After a few hours anxious waiting “Socks” finally made a brief appearance before chasing off a younger buck leaving Terry hopeful he would return to the field. A few minutes later “Socks” came back on the field only to chase another young buck right towards Terryʼs blind forcing him to scramble to get ready for the shot. With his PSE in hand the buck read the script and walked right in front of the blind presenting a 15 yard quartering away shot. Terry delivered a perfect shot and thanks to the Rage Extreme the buck ran only 80 yards before going down.

This was yet another long overdue hunt being 26 days since he was last able to capitalize on an opportunity like this. Day 75 of hunting finally produced Terryʼs 2nd buck of 2013 a beautiful well deserved 140” 8 point.
