December 29: Bart Goins

Christmas holidays are always a fun time to hunt for us. My wife, Rachel, is off of work and usually wanting to go at least a day or two. Blair had an Iowa tag and the original plan was that we were all gonna go out to Iowa after Christmas. As December progressed, we were having a hard time putting a buck on the ground. Blair started having some minor infection show up in his leg around mid December which pretty much put him out of the game for a couple weeks. We decided to switch plans. Rachel and I would now go to Jackson , TN. and Blair would get Julee to go to hunt Iowa with him. After all both places we would be hunting box blinds which makes it pretty easy to pull off. My plan was to film Rachel kill one if given the chance.

The third evening of our hunt Rachel and I were hunting a big fresh cut corn food plot. With a front coming in, I figured deer would move well. First deer in the field was a beautiful 135-40 inch 8 point. We knew this deer and definitely wanted to take him. The problem was... he was about 150-60 yards which was to far for Rachel to shoot. She did not feel comfortable at all with the shot. So after him being out there for about 10 minutes... We decided to swap. She was now gonna be the cameraman. The deer dropped when I shot and the celebration began. Rachel had filmed me take my third buck of the year. It was a fun fun hunt spending time with my wife and looks like this year we connected!
