Every year at the end of January the Dream Season teams head south to the Mississippi Delta for some fine bow hunting. Tara Wildlife has been hosting the last hunt of Dream Season for some time now. I especially look forward to this trip because Tara is almost like going home. I absolutely love the place. To top that off, we also get to hang out with our CAD kid recipient and watch him try to harvest a mature buck as well.

This year surely didn't disappoint. Blair had another surgery on January 8, which was going to make it very hard for him to be back ready to hunt for this trip. The surgery went well and the surgeons at Vanderbilt was able to remove all of the infection around the metal plates in his leg. Hopefully this will be the last surgery he will undergo. We arrived at Tara mid day on the 22nd. We hurriedly got our stuff on and out in the woods. The first evening was amazing. We saw probably 40 deer with 6 shooters. We had a 10 point pushing 140 at about 51 yards but could not get it done. After showing the footage to the guys in camp we determined one of the deer that I had passed on the first evening was a dinosaur! The guides said he was easily 6 if not older.

On the evening of the 25th, the wind finally got back right and we were headed back to the food plot from the first evening. The movement early was slow. Finally around 5, we had deer starting to pour out into the field. One of which was a very mature 8 point with two broken tines. This is the buck we concluded was so old. After about 10 minutes of feeding the buck made it to 49 yards. I knew he wasn't coming any closer. I felt confident with the PSE DNA at that distance, so I let her fly! The rage hammered him....  I just slammed possibly the oldest buck of my career.

The next morning we found the dinosaur. He had only made it about 80 yards from the food plot and the celebration began. Thanks to all the Tara guides... Frank, Tanner, Bobby, Jason, Taylor, and Don for putting us on em! I also got to witness Brandon our CAD kid slam a huge Tara Wildlife 8 point.  What a fun week it was... I absolutely cant wait to return next year!
