Well 4th season North Zone in Illinois found us at one of our favorite places to go hunting; Illinios Xtreme Whitetails in the heart of Pike, Adams, and Brown counties. Our turkey season has been rolling and we were hoping for that trend to continue. We asked Joel Barthel, owner of IllinoisXtreme Whitetails, in the fall if we could pay him a visit come turkey season due to the large amount of birds we were seeing on some of his top-notch farms. As he has done for us in every aspect of our hunting relationship, he obliged and graciously welcomed us.

On day two we found ourselves in the middle of the game. We had numerous gobblers off the roost, but only one decided to play ball. After holding up on an oak ridge and then behind a fence, silly bird, he finally poked through and attempted to pick a fight with our decoy setup. What he didn’t know was that our setup had a big brother named Winchester. Needless to say, the rest is history. The old boss gobbler weighed in at a whopping 26 pounds, sported 1 ½ spurs, and drug around an 11 inch beard. Better yet, this bird hit the dirt on the same farm Kyle scored on a 170” beast 2 years ago. A big thank you to Joel once again for allowing us to stay at his beautiful lodge and permitting us to hunt some of his game-rich & scenic property.
