It's been kind of a slow season; not much activity and lots of cold weather! But, that all turned around on my last hunt of the year. After 2 and a half hours of sitting in the blind, we were ready to call it quits... but a doe slightly out of range kept us from leaving. Suddenly, at the other end of the field, my dad spotted a nice buck walk quickly in and out of view. I only saw his rear end at that point, but just that sight told me he was huge! We waited a little longer, hoping for him to show again. My dad finally cracked and took out the deer call, and not long after the buck showed up. If I could shoot him at 85 yards we would get a picture of the buck being shot on our Reconex camera that was behind him. My dad kept worrying at me about it being too far, but I had it under contol. When I was finally ready to shoot, we had to yield for a smaller buck walking behind him. Finally, the 8 pointer was all mine. After the shot I was shaking so hard I thought my arms might fall off! But it was all worth it... now I got a big buck in our cooler ready to be made into jerky and sausage! -Katherine
