December 12: Kyle McClellan

Last Illinois gun season and I finally got it done on my farm this year. I have been having a great season of seeing good deer on my farm but not a good season of getting them on the ground until this weekend.

During the second Illinois gun season we saw this buck but he only gave us a few seconds. Instead of rushing the shot and taking a chance of scaring him off we were patient knowing that we still had a weekend left, and he was becoming more and more of a homebody by the day. The Reconyx cameras first picked him up on November 4th and he stayed ever since. I had a camera on my south field and we got his picture there all the time. When we picked which blind to hunt I knew I needed to be able to see that south food plot and good thing we did. He came out in the Biologic Maximum field and I was able to get a shot at him at 120 yards. This was the first time I have used the Traditions and I’m a fan! He went 40 yards and fell in the field.

I was able to harvest an awesome buck in Iowa on November 28th and 2 weeks later able to do it again on my own ground in Illinois. All of the hard work has paid off and what a great season it has turned out to be. Thanks for reading.
