December 1: Dan Thurston

December, 1, a day before opening day of rifle season in Kansas we got it done with our bows!  And by we, I mean my son Cody and I both doubled up on film.  I went to a stand that we call Talladega because the walk is ¾ of a mile to the stand.  It’s about a 100 yards off a green biologic food plot in a staging area.   Cody went to a Muddy redemption blind in between a cut bean field and a wheat field.   Phase 10, it’s all about the food.

Kansas, high winds, 1 day before the Kansas orange army was set to go out.  The odds were not in our favor but we were determined to finish strong with my quest for 6 animals on my 60th year.  We did not have a Recoynx camera near the stand but we knew that there were several shooters in the area. Not more than 30 minutes into the hunt and we had a deer we call “Ned” (never ever developed) come cruising in at 15 yards and the PSE and rage broad head did their job! We waited for about 45 minutes before we climbed down and started tracking him, he didn’t run more than 75 yards away and piled up! Not long after we recovered my deer I receive a text that Cody had shot a deer we call “crab claw”. I couldn’t have been any happier! 6 @ 60 rolls on!
