December 2: Steve Frantz

This Ozonics Train is still rolling!!! I came back up here to hunt with Ty McCombs of Whitetail outfitters of Ohio where Jarrod killed a nice mid 140s buck with his bow during early season and I had several encounters with my bow during the early-season and the rut, but I just couldn't quite close the deal. Let's just say the camera saved a couple of big bucks!
Well the rut had pretty much dwindled down. The plan was to hunt in big blocks of timber about 200 to 300 yards off of food sources trying to catch the deer staging before they go out to feed. The trail cameras were showing that the deer were not showing up on the food plots and ag fields till just after dark. The first couple days of the hunt we seen several deer up on their feet most of that was browsing on acorns just no big shooters.
On December 3 we had lows in the low 20s and highs in the low 40s with high-pressure above 30. Everything was lining up just perfect, as is all about the weather from here on out this time of year. On this particular evening hunt, we were in a big block of timber about 300 yds off a biologic food plot real close to a bedding area. The hunt started right off with some action from several does moving through the timber. Around 4:15 I noticed a glimpse of a big rack about 130 yards coming straight out of the bedding area headed our way. I turned to Ty and said big shooter coming get ready! Immediately after finding the big boy in the viewfinder, Ty said "its Dagger its Dagger"!!! This was one of the 5 shooters on this farm we had been getting pics of this year and my #1 target buck! I hunted him during the early-season and the rut, but I never laid my eyes on him. My heart was pounding like none other there's nothing like going after a buck that you know so much about! He slowly made his way towards us up to about 80 yards into a clearing. That's when I put the Winchester SXP 20 gauge coupled with the Nikon Monarch 5 scope on him in let 'er rip! Dagger took off running back into the bedding area. Just to be safe we decided to go back to the Lodge to eat dinner and give him about four hours. We came back out and found him about 150 yards from where I shot him! I was very humbled when I walked up to this deer as I knew that he was well over 160 5 1/2-year-old and my third 160+ buck of the season what a Dream Season come true!
I want to give a huge huge thanks to Ty McCombs he has let me hunt with him a lot this year to try to get the deal done. He has even filmed me when my cameraman couldn't make it and even filmed me on this kill! I can't express how much I appreciate him and his hard work. This guy is legit: he knows his big deer and has really good farms with very low pressure! If you're looking for a hunt in Ohio look no further, give Ty McCombs with Whitetail Outfitters of Ohio  http://www.whitetailoutfittersofohio.com/   Or   https://www.facebook.com/whitetailoutfittersofohio.tymccombs/  a call you won't be disappointed!
