It’s been a while since I have been on the Journal. Last year I was unable to get a turkey or whitetail. With the wind, snow and rain it looked like I might go without a turkey again. After four and a half days of hunting with a bow, I picked up my shotgun for the last afternoon. My son Jacob and I went ‘running and gunning.’ It was good to be on the move after many hours in a blind. We spotted a huge tom that we had been seeing for a couple of weeks. We stalked within a couple hundred yards. I crawled out to the edge of the field and put out a hen decoy. The second the big gobbler spotted it he was on his way. The gobbler was huge, the heaviest I have ever taken, with a 13” beard. Jacob did a great job on the camera and I was glad he was there with me.
