November 27 was a magical day in Northern Missouri. The firearms season has passed and Ryan and I are back at it trying to harvest a mature deer with the PSE. We set out for an evening hunt and with cold temperatures and a brisk North wind we knew we had a good chance of catching a mature buck heading to a feed field. Once getting climbed up and settled in it didn't take long for the deer to move. Once the deer began to filter out onto the field we began to wonder if a mature deer would present himself.

After quite a few deer began to feed I looked off into the distance and saw several good bucks at the other end of the field feeding our way. Upon better review I realized that these were some of the younger deer that I had encountered earlier in the season. Several of the deer walked within bow range, but none of them are what I had my sights set on for this season. Later on this evening as the temperature began to fall and the wind picked up. The field was full of deer and I looked into the distance and saw a single deer. The manor in which he entered the field led me to believe that this deer was mature. This old ancient warrior slowly came onto the field and begin heading our direction. The buck walked right into my shooting lane presenting me with a 30 yard shot. Once I released the arrow and saw it hit home the buck fell in his tracks not making it but more than just a few yards.

I can't tell you how lucky I am to have harvested this particular buck. After close examination this buck didn't have a tooth in his head, which told me this deer was fully mature and a great deer to take out of the heard on my particular farm. I owe this successful harvest to the PSE EVO and the Rage broad head, together its a deadly combination. All in all it was a great hunt and with just a few weeks before the muzzle loader season here in Missouri I wish everyone good luck and safe hunting.
