Well it was time for the Tennessee youth hunt weekend and that means my annual St. Jude’s hunting for a cure hunt was here! I look forward to this hunt every year. It is for a great cause and every penny we raise at this event goes to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. This year we raised 70,050.00 in three days! At the evening meeting I was paired up with Jake Plunkett.

After the meeting I went to try and roost some birds for Jake and saw three hens and four long beards fly up. Now we have a plan! The next morning we there early. We got the King Strut and Shady Lady set up and our tree picked out to set against 45 minutes before day break. We were there so early because we were set up along a field. As daylight started to break the gobblers started sounding off! Wow, we were within 40 yards of them. I could actually hear him spitting and drumming on the limb! Awesome! When he pitched he landed about 35 yards from the decoys. He looked at the King Strut and here he came. I looked at Jake and he needed to move his gun to the left. He waited until he thought he could move but the bird caught movement and as he started to run Jake drooped him like a bad habit!

This hunt is how we like them. Short and sweet, we had heroes, cut always and photos all done before the sun was up over the trees! This was the 8th annual St. Jude’s hunt down in Savannah, Tennessee and my seventh. We are 100 % for kills all seven years! Great job Jacob!
