April 12: Kyle Lamore

Illinois' first week of turkey season was upon us and we were excited to get out there and give it a try. Our deer lease just doesnt have many birds on it so we were super excited when a Drury fan emailed us about the possibility of hunting on his farm only miles from my house. Our buddy Chris insisted the farm was full of birds and the reconyx cameras proved he was right on.

The first day we had a strutter come in all the way across the field but for whatever reason hung up when it was getting into range as they often do. However, on the second morning the birds did exactly what they were supposed to do by pitching down and coming right into the call and decoys. The hunt was over before it really even got started..it was one of the best turkey hunts I have had in Illlinois in a long time. The good news was a bird was dead on the ground and I was pumped..the bad news was the birds had circled and came in from the opposite direction as excepted and proved filming for JJ to be extremely difficult to say the least.

The recent warm weather and rain has the timber looking more like mid May than Mid April--this in turn gave JJ and different look than I had behind the gun. We were disappointed but still excited and a big thanks goes out to the Chiggar for this bird!
