October 25: Raven Durbin

This story began about a month or so ago when I got a phone call concerning a young lady named Raven Durbin. A friend of her family had seen a Catch A Dream hunt on TV and wanted to know if I could help get Raven on a hunt.

She suffers from Leukemia and has been going thru a tough time recently. Around the same time frame, Marty Brunson had received a call also. Marty and I began working immediately on getting the paperwork and other things together to try to make this hunt happen for her. A few weeks went by and I received a call from Marty saying the hunt was in place. Raven would be hunting in Southwest Missouri at Little Flat Creek Ranch. I met Raven, her dad, and her 3 little brothers and after a 7 hr drive we arrived at Little Flat Creek on Monday morning. After letting Raven take a few practice shots on the range, we were ready for the afternoon hunt. With 3 kids and 4 adults in the blind including me on the camera I was a little concerned about getting busted. The first buck to show was a 2.5 yr old 8pt that she elected not to shoot, it wasnt long before another buck came into the food plot. He looked to be mature and Raven got very excited and wanted to take him. She said, "He is bigger than any buck my dad has on the wall and I want to take him." She squeezed the trigger and he didnt make it but 50 yds. before piling up. We were all high fiving and it was hard to contain the emotion that was felt in that blind at that moment.

I was very proud to be a part of this hunt and would like to thank Catch A Dream for providing this opportunity. I can honestly say that this was one of the most enjoyable hunts of my life and Raven is one
very special person.
