November 6: Dave Reisner

This year was the year that I was supposed to get my wife her first buck with a bow.  We’ll after a few trips afield with my wife I needed some quality time behind the bow and that’s exactly where I found myself on November 7th.   With southerly winds prevailing I used the river bank for cover and slipped into a highly traveled area just outside a bedding thicket.  This proved to be the ticket as we had bucks around us all morning.  There was a 2 year old chasing a doe for about 20 minutes all around us.  Your thoughts are pretty high as those type of activities are unfolding.

My attention was on a few does slipping through when I heard just the slightest crunch of some leaves off to my right.  As I looked over I was amazed that a buck that I know so well had slipped into 12 yards undetected.  I had named him Flasher as I had many  Reconyx  photos of him this year and he seemed to always be in front of one of my camera’s.  A few frantic moments later with my PSE Omen at full draw and Flasher broadside wide open at 20 yards I touched off the trigger and instantly saw my arrow connect and blood pumping.  Flasher would only make it 48 yards before falling over and just like that my 2010 season had come and gone.  It was definitely a sweet November gift.

Afterwards, as I was explaining the hunt to my wife I couldn’t help thinking how nice this would have been for her, but as I told her she must be destined for Mr. Big!!
