November 6: Lance Chapman

After hunting Kentucky hard since the last week of October and into early November and seeing very little rut activity , I was glad to receive a phone call from a friend of mine in southern Illinois. He said the bucks were on the move and several shooters had been spotted in the past few days. With temps expected to be below freezing for the weekend , Robin and I loaded up and made the 3 hr drive to Illinois. We hunted the first few days and saw a few bucks but nothing worth shooting.

Saturday morning arrived with temps in the low 20's and we got into the stands with high expectations. After seeing some does and few small bucks , things got slow at mid morning . Then all of a sudden , Robin said " deer coming ". I looked and it was a nice mature buck just cruising along around coming right for the stand. He came in close and stopped but was behind a tree, finally he made a hard left and I stopped him and put a Rage thru both lungs and he didn't go far. I was definitely happy that my buddy had called and sure glad to tag out in Illinois after being shut out in the Prairie state last Fall.
