For the last several years, Tara Wildlife has been the location for the second group hunt for Dream Season TV. This is a trip that I looked forward to from the moment that we were told that we had made the Dream Season 8: Workin’ Man cast. I had heard stories from the past about the Catch A Dream Kids, the Catch a Dream Banquet, and the hunting at Tara and couldn’t wait to get to the Mississippi/Louisiana line.

January 23 found big brother and I back on the road for the very last trip during Dream Season 8. First stop was south Alabama to one of my buddy’s farm to hunt for a few days before we head on to Tara. We saw several deer in the few days we were there but no luck on killing. From there, we headed west over to Vicksburg, Mississippi to meet all the guys for the final hunt at Tara. The plan was to hunt Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Catch A Dream kid Dylan was to arrive on Thursday.

The first morning brought a lot of deer and one shooter out of range. The first evening brought even more deer. I passed on a 3 year old 11 point that I thought should have been given the chance to make another year. This place was amazing to me at the amount of deer we were seeing. The second morning was the archery competition. As soon as it was over, we were headed out for the second evening hunt. The second evening hunt was unbelievable with over 50 deer out in our field with 5 big shooters. Right before dark we had a solid 130’ wide 8 point walk within range. Big brother called me off because too much light had ran out. The plan the next morning was to get on the other end of this field to see if we could catch the shooters coming back in the timber. The next morning started out slow. Around 8:30 A.M, we spotted a shooter about 100 yards out in the timber walking away from us. I immediately grabbed the Growl grunt call just to see how the buck would respond. As soon as I hit it, the buck turns and slowly walks right to us. I knew it couldn’t be this easy. The heavy 8 point gets to 70 yards and hangs up. After a couple of minutes, he turns and starts walking back where he came from. I grunted three more times at him. He turns and starts walking right to us again. After a long five minutes of watching him take his time to get to us, the buck was now at 49 yards and it was my time. I draw the PSE Evo, settle in, and let the rage missile fly. After a short death run, the buck falls on camera and big brother and I start the celebration. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this Willowpoint buck.

This trip was real eye opening experience for me. The Catch A Dream banquet was very touching and made me realize how blessed I really am. Catch A Dream couldn’t have picked a better kid for the event. Thanks to Tara Wildlife for letting us come, thanks to Catch A Dream and Drury Outdoors for what they do, and thanks to my man Dylan for really impacting my life this week. This puts an end to our season on a high note!
