February 10: Dan Thurston & Troy Dawson

LIGHTENING STRIKES TWICE with two of the largest storms in the mid-west history. You would think one would know better than to go out wandering in 22 inches of snow......but, not ME!!! I feel in the next ten days that coyote and bobcat calling is going to be primo!

So today, February 10, I called my cousin, Troy Dawson, and off to Prairie Oaks, in beautiful Chase County, I went. Troy and his wife Sara had seen bobcats in an old abandoned rock quarry on their property. So.....Troy suggested we try to slip in , set up the MAD Ultimate One Caller in a rock cropping nearby. Talk about a short and sweet setting, temperatures are 21 below at night and 22 for a high during the day - it didn't take long for the cats to come out and play....hungry they are!!!

Cat number one bounded on top of a ridge line- standing like a silouette, waiting for the TC ProHunter, chambered in the 204 caliber to strike clean and swift. Troy was running the camera and I was running one of my favorite weapons - and it was over in less than 5 minutes. So we merely traded camera for gun and now it's Troy's turn. Less than ten minutes went by using a 'house cat' distress sound......another cat appeared from a pile of boulders to see what the heck was going on. I got it in frame and Troy let the 204 'bark'. And we hit our daily double - it doesn't happend often enough - but, when it does, how cool can it be!!!
