My Daughter Julie and I were fortunate to draw Iowa turkey tags this year and we had an awesome hunt This hunt is one I look forward to every year, my daughter and I started hunting together in Iowa last spring, and we made an agreement that we were going to make it an annual event. We drew second season tags this year, and we were excited to get started, opening day brought us a lot of gobbling action, but we just couldn’t get a bird into gun range.

The second day of the season we went back into the same area where we hunted the first day, and after driving our Bad Boy Buggie to the back end of the farm where we were hunting, we located a hard gobbling turkey in a creek bottom. We slipped along the creek as close as we could get to him on the roost and made our setup, we put out the King Strut Gobbler decoy and a hen decoy and I set up the camera on the tripod, and we were ready to do business with this old gobbler!
It wasn’t long and the gobbler flew down out in front of us about 100 yards down the creek, and I called to him, he was hot and immediately started our way, he was gobblin and drumming as he came closer, and just before he came into sight an owl started hooting and he triple gobbled at the owl, the audio is awesome! It wasn’t long and we spotted the gobbler strutting and he was headed directly to the decoy he came straight in and got face to face with the King Strut decoy, and after putting on a great show Julie lowered the boom on him, what an awesome hunt!

To make this hunt even more special, Julie is 6.5 months pregnant with our first grandchild, and we are looking forward to having another little turkey hunter in our family, good luck to everyone this spring!
