After an awesome hunt with my daughter Julie on April 18th, it was time for me to get after a big Iowa gobbler, my son Chris would be with me on this hunt, and run the camera for me. Sunday morning April 19th dawned wet and foggy, not your ideal conditions for a spring gobbler hunting. We made the drive up to Iowa in the rain from our North Mo Farm, just before daylight the rain let up to a mist, and we took off into the same farm where my daughter Julie and I hunted the day before.

Things started off a little slow at first light, and we kept moving towards the far end of the farm where I had heard some gobblers the day before. Just as we topped a hill overlooking a big creek drainage, I blew my crow call, and we heard 2 gobblers respond about ¼ mile away, we took off at a fast walk and closed the distance, the gobblers were above us on a bluff across a creek, and we were not able to get above them without being spotted, they were gobbling so hard we decided to try and call them down, and across the creek, not your ideal setup, but we thought we would try it.

We setup along the creek shelf, and Chris got the camera ready as I put the decoys out, the gobblers responded hard to my calls, and were on their way to us, they pitched off the bluff above the creek and flew down to the creek shelf where we were set up, and came straight in! The gobblers were as hot , gobbling and drumming all the way! The gobblers appeared out of the creek bottom and I made a good shot, and we had our second bird in 2 days in Iowa. Hunting as a family is truly a gift, getting to spend 3 days hunting with my daughter and son made the hunt extra special, we wish everyone a great spring season!
