April 24: Dr. Darren Haskell

"This Never Happens" Cont'd

4/25: After a rainy night and early morning, we headed across the border to Iowa & got some birds to respond so off to the timber we went. We got as close as we wanted to one hot gobbler & wondered if we would get him to cross a 20’ drainage ditch as we could tell by his location he was on the other side. Again, Mark did the trick with his calling as the gobbler couldn’t resist. He made the crossing and began coming up the valley toward our location all the while another set of birds seemed to be approaching us from behind as well. Unfortunately for this Tom, he got there 1st & Doc wrote him a prescription for a free ride back to camp in the back of our truck. Bird #2 for the weekend and his career for Doc!! Again “this never happens” we hear from Jared & Mark… you don’t get birds to cross a drainage that wide & deep, but he did that day. The rainy, dreary day quickly brightened up after this experience!
