"This Never Happens" Cont'd

4/26: Last day of the weekend hunt & the amateurs take the back seat & let the experienced hunter give it a shot. Back to MO & Jared was gunner with Mark armed with the camera & his calls. No chance for the birds this morning right? We located a hot bird on the other side of an old fence & they never cross the fence, but thought we’d give it a try. Tommy came walking in gobbling his head off the whole way & stopped about 55 yards in front of us. Jared zeroed in on him, but we may have pushed the limit a bit too far with a 20 gauge & this Tom lived to see another day. But yet again, “this never happens” getting him to cross the fence. Not long thereafter, we set up on 2 more strutting gobblers in a bottom field. We had a great set up & all we had to do was call them up over the hill for a shot. They worked their way in & for the 1st time this weekend, they did not gobble at all, but were curious enough to take a look at the King Strut/Hen combo we had set up. This time, Jared made sure they were ‘close enough’ and put it where it hurt the most for ole Tom.

4 mature birds in 3 days… well you guessed it “this never happens”, but it did for us. So Mark, thank you very much for inviting us up to share this experience with you. Darren & I could not stop talking on the way home how much fun we had & how easy this weekend was to harvest a (or 4) spring Gobbler(s). We appreciate it very much!!!
