Klem and I decided the night of October 27th that we really had to be smart about where we hunted. There has been a ton of rain and not many of the farmers have been able to get their crops out. We targeted picked corn because there were only a few fields where the corn had been harvested.

We set up on this foggy morning on the edge of a small bedding area just off of picked corn. It was a brand new set and we were excited about hunting it. It was one of those small little fingers of timber where I had always seen big bucks bed in the past and I had never hung a stand there because it was so close to the land owner’s house. In fact we named it the “Back Porch” stand because it was only about 200 yards from his back porch. We parked in the land owner’s driveway and snuck in.

It wasn’t long before we saw a few deer moving through and then I noticed this buck by himself. It was so foggy, he just appeared! I instantly recognized him as a buck I had some pictures of on my Reconyx cameras. I knew he was a mature buck and he was on my hit list. He gave me a broadside shot at 40 yards and I took it. The Rage and the PSE combo are hard to beat!!! They did their job and he fell on camera within 60 yards. The best part about today was not shooting a 150 class buck, but sharing that experience with my best friend and filming buddy Mike “Klem” Klemmensen. This hunting trophy whitetails is not all about killing big deer, it is about the camaraderie with friends and family that make it special! Now it is my turn behind the camera and Klems turn behind his PSE. Say a prayer for us! -Tom
