Opening gun season Kyle and I hit the woods. Father and son and we were extremely excited. We had several sightings of nice 4 and 5 year olds on this property. We decided to play it safe on opening morning due to the South winds and sat the North side of a large thicket marsh. After four hours of heavy fog and no deer, I decided it was time for a good hearty breakfast. Kyle, like most growing 19 year olds, loves breakfast. As we were heading back to the woods and I told Kyle we are going to a special set for our afternoon hunt. This set is in a staging area just outside the Big Boy’s bedroom. My hopes were with the crosswinds, one of the big bucks in the area would leave the bedding area and cross check winds for a hot doe. We made it back on stand by 12 Noon. With camera in hand, I watched Kyle having a hard time keeping his eyes open. That late morning breakfast was making us both sleepy eyed. After 3 ½ hours and no deer, I whispered to my son “It’s Prime Time, Be Ready.” I had made a few bleat calls hoping a nearby buck could hear.

Just minutes later, Kyle spotted a buck coming our way from the bedding area. He whispered “I think He’s Pretty Nice!”. As I turn to get on the buck, I was pleasantly surprised. A Big 10 Pointer at 40 yards and closing walking into a crosswind, we were in great shape. A doe had stepped into the picture from our back side. As this Beautiful Buck made his way toward her, he presented almost a perfect broadside less than 15 yard shot for Kyle. Kyle laid the hammer down on the TC Pro Hunter and this Beautiful Big 10 does a forty yard death run. Kyle and I will remember this hunt for years to come. Nothing like a Father/Son Opening Day Success!
