December 12: Kyle Lamore

Song dog fever! Well...the last day of IL muzzleloader season was here and yet again we were deer-less. Standing corn, warm temps, and Illinois' declining deer numbers were all working together to make this a very tough ten days of gun hunting. The last night was here and we had not seen a shooter since gun's opening day, over three weeks ago! Moral was not good and I had to talk JJ into taking a break from his house moving to try it one last time. Well..yet again the deer proved too tough but managed to spot a song dog just as we settled in for the evening hunt. A few short squeks and a couple minutes later, he had closed the distance to 40 yards to investigate the call. The T/C did it's job and I had just harvested my first ever coyote. After checking out it's blonde coat, we think it is the same dog JJ had a close encounter with during bow season, but a tree branch saved it's life that day! It was the third dog harvest of the year for Team Illinois and at this rate I think we might have to switch from deer to dogs!
