Well, as much as I would like to say that I had been hunting this 22 point buck all year and with 3 days left in the season, it all came together and this would be the neatest story ever, I cannot. The truth is when this white racked monster walked by my ground blind @ 20 yards on the way to a bean field, I had never even seen him, much less gotten a Reconyx photo of him. Since July 4th, my Reconyx cameras have taken over 480,000 photos and not 1 of them had a photograph of this guy. So to say I about fell off my seat in the blind when he came strolling by, would be the understatement of the year!

Who was this deer? How old was he? These were the questions I was whispering to Lil’ Jon as this buck was staring at our blind 40 yards away as I was looking @ him through my Nikon scope with the hammer back. Lil’ Jon said “I dunno” and I was so in awe and uncertain of who he was, I didn’t shoot and the buck took off running to the other side of the field. What was I thinking? Well after I got done fussing at myself to Lil’ Jon over why in the world I didn’t shoot that deer, a pack of coyotes started howling, cleared the field and I was lucky enough for this big boy to run right at the blind. He stopped 60 yards from our blind and this time the only question asked was “Are you on him?”. My TC barked, the shockwave made contact and the biggest buck of my life took his last breath. You got to be kidding me, it all happened so fast, I went to that bean field to shoot a 8 point management buck we had been seeing there and this freak shows up!

We gathered ourselves, went back to the house and waited on Tim Sylvia and my Dad to get back with the buck that Tim had shot that afternoon. We gave them high fives, listened to their story on Tim’s big 8, then I told Tim, that I didn’t want to steal his thunder..... BUT that I had shot a monster and I would need their help getting him out. No worries about stealing Tim’s thunder because when he saw my buck, that was the happiest I had ever seen him. This was an amazing end to one sure enough DREAM SEASON, and we were fortunate enough to have this great year while filming Celebrity Dream Season all fall. I am a blessed hunter and feel extremely humbled to have taken one of the most amazing deer I have ever seen.
