LOVE me some turkey hunting! Well David and Jeff invited me up to Iowa to go hunting with them on their farm, so I applied for a tag, and luckily I got drawn. So I took off to Iowa a day early so Jeff and I could scout some turkeys and it seemed like we seen and heard them everywhere we went. Just this one day of scouting got me pumped up for opening morning! I couldnt be more ready.

So here it is opening morning I got my PSE, my blind, and David, were ready to go. David and myself pair up to go hunt some birds that we had seen the morning before out scouting. We head out early about 5:40 in the morning to get set up in our blind and put out a decoy. We settle in and hear birds all around in the distance.
There were two birds inparticular that seemed to be right off the field that we were hunting. So i let day break a little more and began to yelp to let them know that I was there. Shortly after I heard them gobble, I felt like they were on the ground and coming our way. Within seconds, I saw them coming up behind a trash pile and I told David "there they are!" I got nervous, but David was right behind me running the camera, trying to keep me calm and telling me to take my time. The whole time, the turkeys were coming right to us, gobbling their heads off.

As they came closer, one stayed in full strut. At that point I knew he was the bird I wanted to kill. I called them up to about 8 yards from the blind. They were both in strut, but i knew it was the back bird I was going to kill. They both slightly turned to the left, and I drew my bow back. Doing this spooked the birds, making them run about 15 yards. I knew it was now or never so I released the arrow ...

WOW I didnt know it would happen this quick, 30 minutes into opening morning and I have killed my first ever turkey with a BOW and an Iowa bird at that! I couldn't be happier. Thanks David and Jeff!
