September 26: Jeff Lindsey

We don’t get to hunt Georgia much anymore, but when we do we really look forward to it. I had just got back from Iowa and was headed out to Rage some does Saturday morning as the sun was coming up, but when I crested the hill going to my stand I could see a big 8 pointer headed to my set in a funnel coming back from our soybean fields. I backed out not wanting to spook the buck with hopes he would do the same thing that afternoon headed back to the bean fields. I sent Bobby Goodine a text that morning and told him the time was right to lay down our first hunt of the year.

We got the wind we needed and headed back that afternoon to the “funnel stand” for our first hunt of the year. I had not even got my face mask on when a 2 1/2 yr old wacky rack came right by our stand headed to feed. We watched him for 10 minutes and from the same trail out stepped a shooter. We couldn’t believe it! We just climbed up the stand and was looking at a buck that wasn’t even the big 8 I had seen that morning, but a bigger 5 1/2 year old buck I had filmed this summer! He browsed around for what seemed like an eternity and walked all the way in to a broadside 19 yard death trap. He ran 100 yards, fell on camera and we had our first kill of the year under our belts and the first Drury Outdoors Georgia kill ever, on our first time out together all year! - Jeff
