November 8: Dave Reisner

It has been a strange year so far in that I have had all of the encounters with big deer. For some reason I see a shooter about everytime I hunt but I have yet to draw my bow. I have had great encounters with a 170" buck we call crabby and a 160" buck we have nicknamed lucky since he has walked by my tree in bow range twice but has not offered me a shot. Dave had not had an encoutner with a deer over 3 yrs old all season.

So after more than ten days of hard hunting our good friend Curt Richey decided to throw us a bone.  He said we could hunt his farm in southern Iowa where Dave shot a nice deer during the '06 bow season. His set is hung over a pond and has proven to be a hot spot this time of year.  So it was without hesitation that Dave accepted Curt's invitation to hunt this "hot spot".

We headed into the stand around 12 noon but things were pretty slow. I was starting to think that it didn't matter where we hunted Dave was not going to see a shooter while he was hunting. Finally around 3:30 I thought I saw antlers coming through the timber. We didn't have long to react as I turned the camera on the deer was already right on top of us. Dave made a lethal shot and the buck went down on camera. This may not be his biggest bow kill but after the season we have had it may have been one his most hard earned whitetails. -John O'Dell
