“Well, this doesn’t surprise me..” were the words I muttered to Dad after we heard ZERO gobbles off the limb. The weather had once again turned cold, over cast, windy, and rain from the night before much like a week ago when I killed my 2nd season bird. But this season was going to be different I was going to try to shank one with my PSE EVO.

With the weather and no gobbles at first light our plan was to try the waiting game. We were going to pop a blind up and wait until the weather warmed and hoped the gobblers temps would too. But I was also waiting for my phone to ring at any minute. My wife Rachel is 11 days away from our due date. She is 80% effaced and dilating. So our daughter Quincy could come at anytime..and YES being the “bad” husband that I am I couldn’t stay out of the timber.

But it paid off! We had no more than popped the blind up, set out King Strut and Shady Lady, ran a few series of yelps and cutts on the Super Aluminator and a sassy hen came into the decoys to inspect the party. She got fired up and started her own series of calling. God Bless her because she got a gobbler fired up and he too was on his way to join the party. But all he did was help Dad and I celebrate my 1st Bow Kill with a PSE or with any bow!! This guy was a toad! He was packing 1 ½” sharp spurs!

So now I’m still waiting on the call from my wife for us to rush off to the Delivery room. So I’d say Longbeard Madness is over for me this year, but keep watching the journal because it ain’t over for the rest of DOD! Gobble Gobble!
