Spring 2012 has started out about as crazy as a hog on ice! The temps have been record high and the foliage is like a jungle. This has put a lot of the birds about 3-4 weeks ahead of cycle making them pretty tough to start on. But Hey, it’s turkey season and we are getting MAD at em’! First season in Illinois started off beautiful with clear sunny days and gobbling galore. Ol’ Larry was up to bat first with a 1st season tag. But ended up with nothing but a swing and a miss…yep brush shot one at 12 yards..so he says (he’s already using the spring green up as an excuse).

Now It’s my turn with a 2nd Season tag and I knew right were I wanted to go! The Reconyx Cam from late winter/early spring showed a large group of gobblers waiting on me. After the fearful Friday the 13th curse (and the Cards got beat on opening day) we were looking for a pick me up. So, I had to get in the mind set of a serial killer. I remembered a few years ago that Jeff Lindsey supported the Buck Stach for good luck, so I came up with something pretty special….the “Strutter Stach!” Yep a stand alone creepy looking mustache. Even though my wife, Rachel, was repulsed by it I knew it was going to bring us luck.

And it did just that. We went Old School on them with the new Super Aluminator that MAD brought back to the line up and got one so fired up he came like a bolt straight to put the whoopin on King Strut. But instead he found a load of Winchester Xtended Range Supreme #5’s. He took it like a man at a mere 6 yards! So the Struter Stach paid off! But not to press my luck any further with my wife, I’m back to baby faced for now or at least until the turkey hunting gets rough. Safe hunting! Gobble Gobble!
