The late season is upon us and food source is a key ingredient in trying to harvest a big mature buck. Ryan and I slipped into our box blind without disturbing anything, patiently awaiting the first few deer to enter the field. At about 4:30 the first few deer began to appear and suddenly from behind the box this buck was feeding at about 20 yards. After a quick scramble to get situated for the shot the buck began to walk into our windows. Slowly I got the window open and as the deer was feeding I got the ok from Ryan so i came to full draw and let the PSE and Rage combination go to work. It was a great hit and the Deer took off out of sight. We decided to go back and review the footage just to make sure the shot placement was where we had thought.
After reviewing the footage we realized that it was a great hit and we anxiously awaited to head back in to recover the animal. We went to the hit sight and shortly thereafter we were on a great blood trail. The buck exited the field at about 60 yards and he was piled up within another 50. It was a great story to harvest this particular buck that Matt Drury and Jenny Wainwright had encountered earlier this fall. The Missouri archery season is rapidly coming to an end and I wish everyone out there good luck and safe hunting.
