We were seeing lots of deer and small bucks, but the mature shooter bucks we were after where just not on their feet in daylight hours. Finally on November 15th we had a good wind to head back into Iowa for a hunt, and it turned out to be a good decision. We got settled into our stands early in the morning before first light, but as it had been for several days, between daylight and 10:30 all we seen was a couple of small bucks. At about 10:35 I looked to the south and saw a buck standing in a scrape and hooking a licking branch about 150 yards south of the stand, I looked thru my binos and decided he was a buck I would be willing to shoot if I could get an opportunity.
I pulled out my M.A.D. Hyper Growl call and gave him a few aggressive grunts, and he turned and immedialty headed my way! The buck was coming up thru a creek flat in a real open timber, and I knew Chris was laying down some awesome footage! He made his way in to 20 yards and I made a really good shot on him and he only made it about 30 yards, and fell on film! We feel this is the best deer kill we have ever filmed. What a thrill it was to take another mature buck and capture the whole event on video, especially with the conditions being so tough this year with a slow rut. Good luck to everyone out there, and hunt safe, hunt hard and keep it fun!
