Hunter: Steve " Coon Dog " Coon
Animal: 9 Pt. Whitetail
Location: Illinois
Weapon: PSE Axe 7
As daylight broke a mature whitetail walked 40 yards from the tree, wouldn't you know it no camera light. When daylight finally broke, it was one of those days a hunter dreams about. We had bucks chasing does everywhere we looked. Each and every doe had a buck of some sort behind her, if not two or three. So with all the action in the timber it just felt like one of those days to hit the horns. My first attempt brought in a great 8 point, that I couldn't get a shot at. A half hour later at attempt number 2, brought in a great 2 1/2 year old that worked a scrape not 12 yards from the tree stand. So as we were sitting there enjoying the morning, we looked up on the hill to our right, and saw three bucks chasing a doe. In an attempt to get one of the bucks to come our way I hit the horns one more time, and let out a series of grunts. No sooner than I put the horns down we heard foot steps fast approaching off the hill. Just as I turned I saw a mature whitetail heading our way. At that time I grabbed my new PSE Axe 7 and when the buck presented me a shot I let the rage fly. What a great job it did on impact.
So with a great buck down, it's Joe's turn. Lets just see what the Illinois rut brings for ole' Joe. Oh yeah! Sent Blocker did get us close enough to kill.
