I had been eagerly waiting for Minnesota’s bow season to open, but due to a commitment had to wait until the second day of the season to begin hunting. On the morning of September 19, we began the day with an 8 hour drive home from Missouri with just enough time to get into the tree. Of course the weather forecast was not exactly accurate and the wind was playing with my nerves. But, it was my first whitetail hunt in 2010 and with confidence in the new Scent Blocker Early Season suit I decided to stay in the stand despite the marginal wind.

We had a Mossy Oak BioLogic Maximum food plot to lure the deer near. The interesting part about our stand location on this particular hunt was that it is located about 150 yards from a large acreage of state land. Some will question state land hunting, but I had confidence we could pull a shooter into the plot.

The hunt slowly progressed with a few does feeding their way through the Maximum. Then, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a deer come into view only 25 yards to my left. I immediately noticed it was one of two shooters I had scouted in this area. The buck made his way into the Maximum providing the perfect shot opportunity. My PSE Omen performed as expected. My first day in Minnesota ended with success! It was a great feeling to have the opportunity at this buck right out of the gate. I hope it’s a glimpse into the rest of this year’s hunting adventures.
