The last few years I have noticed there are less and less fawns around. I used to see twins and triplets all the time. These days singles and open does seem to be the normal, along with the decline of fawns. I have noticed an increase in coyotes. In the spring coyotes have lots of mouths to feed in their den and fawns are one of their favorite things on the menu. After a late season bow hunt last year when this out of whack doe to fawn ratio hit me, I decided to make war on the coyotes. Eric, Jacob, John, and I teamed up to do some coyote management around the farm. If each coyote kills one fawn a season, we just saved six buck fawns!

Story is told by Joe Eugster
