About the Journal
January 2 - John Seid
Hunter: John Seid
Animal: 3 Year Old Whitetail
Location: Wisconsin
Weapon: Thompson Center Encore Pistol .243 Caliber
Well on January 2nd we headed out to a spot were John had been seeing a couple nice big bucks coming off a ridge to feed on a picked corn field. It was really cold, the snow was deep, and we had no blind to head to. We tucked into a brushy fence line that was 350 yards across the picked corn to the base of the ridge. John assured me that if the buck came off that ridge he could make the shot. It wasn’t long and we spotted some deer bedded on the ridge, then we just had to wait and hope they fed down to the corn field.
Finally the does started coming down and sure enough a good buck was bringing up the rear. When the buck made it to the field, John put the T.C. pistol on a good rest and sent a bullet on its way. I was amazed and pleased to see this buck drop dead in its tracks! What a shot, I had never seen anything like it.
When we watched the shot on an H.D. TV, it was incredible. It was so cold out that the bullet left a vapor trail all the way to the buck! With the deer season over, now we plan on going after the coyotes hard. If John shoots like he does deer, it should be interesting.
