November 14 - Keith Kuehn
Hunter: Keith Kuehn
Animal: 170 3/8" Whitetail
Location: Missouri
Weapon: Gun
As has turned out to be the case for Jake and I many times in the past, the Reconyx pictures turned out to be the key. We had hung a camera on a scrape in a bottom bean field that was within 30 yards of a stand we had set up overlooking the field. Over the last two weeks three different shooters had visited the field, in daylight, and on multiple occasions. My decision was made.
There is nothing like opening day of gun season, sitting there in the dark waiting for daylight to come and listening for the first lucking hunters shot to ring out. As shooting ours came and the rifle shots rang out in the distance you just know that that buck is going to walk out any minute. I didn't happen. In fact I saw hardly any movement through 9AM. Then shortly after 9, right on cue, one of the Reconyx bucks, a great looking main frame 11 point appeared out of no where in the field. One of the great things about having pictures of these bucks is you know what you are looking for. So when you have a situation like this where you to make a quick call there is no second guessing if its a shooter, its one look and grab the gun.
One shot dropped the buck in the field. As I made my way to my first Missouri whitetail in some time I was not disappointed. This was a great buck. All I can say is it is just my year. I have spent a total of 5 hours hunting this year and have two gross Boone's to show for it. I keep telling Jake its clean living, he doesn't buy it. Whatever it is, I hope it continues as I head to Iowa for late muzzleloader!
