October 3: Joe Shults

Well everyone is always excited about there first hunt of the year and this hunt was no different ! On this one it took 3 days for it all to unfold. On the 3rd we decided to hunt a timber set and try and take a doe out of the herd and do a little managing of the farm. We decided to take the first mature doe that came in.
We were set up on an oak flat that is full of white and red oak trees and takes a north wind to hunt it and we normally do not have north winds this time of year.
Just after day break we starting seeing movement and a mature doe came into range, Coon Dog said he had enough light so I told him which one I was going to shoot! As she turned broadside I took the shot and the Nocturnal looked like a laser coming out of the PSE! The Rage hit the rib cage and it is an awesome over the shoulder kill!
With the same wind for the evening hunt I was going to a Biologic Maximum field that the deer had been pounding and we had some Reconyx pictures letting us know what was coming into the plot. We had deer start to come in and a beautiful 2 year old buck came in and while we were watching him a 8 point walked in, When I could shoot Coon Dog did not have him on camera so with both of us trying to make it work a doe got nervous and blew the field! After about 25 minutes deer started filtering into the plot again. After several deer had been feeding for a while her the 8 point came back in. It took us a few minutes to get all set up but finally Coon Dog gave me the green light and I let the Rage fly and it found it's mark! 70 yards later there he laid ! So Team MAD done the Daily Double!
Hunt Hard but Hunt Safe!
