Sweet October! Phase 2, greener pasture had Big Jim and I going to a shooting house overlooking a beautiful green field. With the cold front and high pressure that is blowing across the Midwest right now, we had a real good feeling about the next couple days. We were going into this blind knowing that there was a big buck running this area but we had no idea what we were in for. Going in we passed a couple huge, fresh scrapes, which gave us even more confidence coming to this spot. Seeing deer from the time we got into the blind, it was just a waiting game to see if he would show up. After having a few bucks work in, we looked to the other side of the field and could see massive tines coming through the tall grass and knew the game was on. After putting on a show, working a scrape, nudging does, and eating he start to inch our direction. Having the bucks to the right of us, we had a good idea he might work up to us to push these young bucks off his field. He worked from 80 yards, to 60 yards, but once he decided to come approach these buck, he came hard and fast. Being in a blind, we were scrambling to switch windows, we finally got on the same page, got him ranged at 34 yards, and Jim let the Decree HD and Rage combo go to work. The shot was a little bit back so we waited till dark and quietly backed out. After consulting with Mark and Terry, they assured us we did the right thing and said that hit was lethal especially shooting Rage chisel tip extremes. Going in with high hopes the next morning, we got the edge of the field and could smell the buck and within 15 yards we found him and the celebration began. When we walked up on this brute, it was a memory that we will all remember for a lifetime. A buck that every hunter dreams of!
