It was October 16th and it had arrived, the first group hunt of the year for Dream Season Celebrity Season 7! Me, my dad and “The Maine-iac” Tim Sylvia were pumped about the hunt and ready to start chasing the big whitetails Pike County Illinois is famous for. We were able the catch the end of a long cold snap which had made this October probably the best ever for killing early season giants in the midwest. We were pumped and the first afternoon met all of our expectations, I was filming Tim over a cut corn field and we had 2 encounters with big shooter bucks, but with the scent of love in the air, they were running to wild for a shot.

The next morning we had the skills competition, and with any Dream Season competition, this one had a twist. The winning team got to split up and all 3 were to hunt the remainder of the week with producers from Drury Outdoors running the cameras. Well, we ended up winning the competition and now all 3 of Team Sylvia were going out to increase our odds of shooting a buck. The next morning found Tim in a hardwood bottom intercepting the deer as they returned to bed, not long after daybreak a big 8 pointer came cruising through right under Tim’s stand. After an intense conversation with Aaron Bennett, the cameraman, about if he was on him are not, he put the deer down and Team Sylvia had broke the ice @ Hadley Creek! Even though Tim’s buck did not meet the program minimum, he was thrilled with his deer and the happy to pay up. As a Team we were pumped, Tim was on the board in Illinois and we now had the rest of the season to try and fill his Iowa tag.

My Dad and I continued to hunt the rest of the week on some of Hadley Creek’s beautiful food plots but with the temps warming up big time , our only encounters were with 2 and 3 year olds. It was a awesome trip, hanging out with celebrities and hunting big bucks on some of the best ground in America makes for a unforgettable week! - Jeff
