Well there never has been a shortage of deer at the Solitude Ranch, but when we saw over 100 deer from the stand on the first day, even my expectations were exceeded. Several shooters showed their face, but the closest was 57 yards..so on day two we were anxious to set up on smaller food plots to get into bow range. Twenty-some deer invaded the plot, including a great 140" full velvet, so we moved the stand 50 yards and couldn't wait to try it again the next morning. Again, right around 7am, deer start piling into the field, including a great 8 point, at only 39 yards. As he fed along in the plot, he turned quartering away hard and I tucked the pin behind the last rib and watched the Rage pop out right behind the opposite front shoulder.
We went back for lunch and reviewed the footage with Mark and Rick Kreuter, both of whom assured me the arrow placement was there and he couldn't go far. The buck managed to go only 70 yards down the trail before piling up. At 212 pounds live weight, it was a chore getting him loaded up, but we couldn't have been more excited. It was the fourth buck down in three days at the ranch! Everyone had scored! An absolutely great trip topped off with a great buck, and since he had already stripped his velvet, I have an excuse to go back next year for a fuzzy! ~Kyle
